Andrew S. Gustafson attended U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he was a Managing Editor of the Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law. He received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, majoring in History and minoring in Philosophy. He graduated magna cum laude from BYU.
